Being a newcomer to the horror scene (and more specifcally, lovecraft), I would be interseted to know which works I should read first. I have decided that I will be reading 'the rats in the walls' first, but I don't have a list after that.
Any suggestions?

Thanks for all the
Thanks for all the suggestions.
It's been 2+ years since I asked for suggestions, and I'm a bit ashamed to say I haven't read a whole lot of these yet. I've started on a few, but I got a little sidetracked every time.
However, I'm planning on making this time different. I've been good at finishing books lately, so I'm deciding that October will be a "Lovecraft month".
Time to charge the ebook reader and get cracking. . .
Good luck!

Some suggestions
I'm not sure if I'm the best one to ask. I just read them in any order I want. Poe is always a good source of some odd stuff. The Fall of the House of Usher is particularly interesting. For Lovecraft I enjoyed The Dunwich Horror and The Shadow Over Innsmouth (I hope to re-read them soon). If I recall correctly The Thing on the Doorstep is rather creepy.
Lost Lovecraft Story
Now I'm perplexed and slightly frantic. I had thought it was "The Dunwich Horror" that I read years ago and liked, but as I read it this morning the entire story was foreign to me. It was a good story though, so my suggestion is still applicable, but now I am on a search for that story I read and enjoyed, and I fear I have nothing but vague recollections of it. I'm sure it made mention of Miskatonic but that does not seem to be helping me much. I'll keep you posted if I find anything.
I Found It!
The Whisperer in Darkness was/is the story I was thinking of. It is still as good as the first time I read it, and I do recommend it. Quite, very, good. :)
