Holy crap this game is absolutely gore-some (s/gore-/awe/). PSM sent me a demo of the Hydra level and I am totally blown away. I happened to catch a show on G4TechTV (yeah for bored channel surfing last Saturday) about game makers and they happened to be talking about this game. From watching that I really wanted to play the game, and now I am lucky enough to own a demo.
The game is action/adventure on the order of Devil May Cry, but this game puts that one to shame, and I loved that one to pieces! The gore is unreal, the anti-hero (main character) can literally rip his opponents in half! Being an anti-hero no one is safe, so you can "legally" kill everyone on the screen! This is just the visceral game to play when you (I) am feeling aggressive and viscous.
I should say that both the TV show and PSM emphasize the 'M' rating due to the violence and the nudity. Yup, apparently there are some topless women who are NOT blurred out (mind you Sony is the developer too), as well as an "off camera" sex scene mini-game. I'm not sure it's necessary, but I'll still get the game for the visceral thrill.
(This is not a review but a reaction to the demo. Share you reaction to the game, or my reaction.)

Interesting Puzzles
One thing good I can say about the gameplay of God of War is it is varied. At its core it is an action game, but it has it's share of interesting puzzles. These puzzles have had me thinking laterally; I will try the usual tricks and when they fail I will resort to the "Nah, there's no way they would let me do that" and am happily surprised to see they did think that way! On top of the puzzles there is a fair amount of platform action (which I hate).
I am quite surprised at the quality of this game. It is worth the high ratings PSM gave it.
