To be precise my mother said my "Morning Person" blog entry reminded her of Dave Barry, which prompted her to think I could hack it as a columnist. Myself, I doubt I could meet the deadlines and/or write quality.

The real question is, "is it something that sounds appealing?".
If it does, you should go for it. The worse that can happen is rejection. THe second worse is you get fired or quite because you can not handle the deadlines and stress.
